Monday night has the potential to be a blockbuster night for sit-coms. I really like what CBS has done here. 2 1/2 Men is the number 1 sitcom on TV now and will now be surrounded by two potentially great sit-coms. Leading into 2 1/2 men will be How I met your Mother. Bob Sagat is perfectly cast as the voice over and Alyson Hannigan gets to be the goofy financee of his friend. The show creators are a bit untested but this show looks like it might be a real good show. The follow up to 2 1/2 men, Out of Practice, also looks strong with another very strong cast and creators coming over from Frasier. Still it does have Paula Marshall in it a known show killer but hey this is the network that broke Jon Cryer's rep of show killer so maybe they can save her too. The only real downside to all this is Kitchen Confidental. It has a solid cast and Darren Star is behind it but I just can't shake the feeling that this could be a real bomb.
The drama's are a mixed bag. The returning Medium has real potential to turn into a powerhouse show. The renamed Surface looks really good in the previews but I am not sure how they can carry it for a whole season on this much less two. Prison Break also looks like it might be good but I am just not sure how well they can carry a Prison break for 20 something episodes much less into season 2. Just Legal looks awful and should be renamed Doogie Howser goes to Law School.

This is a classic scattershot episode. I understand what they were trying to do but there just too many things to cover. They needed to focus on fewer things. Between her husband and her arguging, Ariel's gift and the new found consequences of it, learning not all spirits are good, etc. etc. There was just too many things and thus the whole episode suffered badly. Clearly its worst episode since its inception.

Each week this show just gets better and better. I tend to not be too excited about watching it each week but then I do and it's really good. It's a good blend of science fiction and crime drama. On the science fiction side, they do an excellent job of portraying the problems of living with her supernatural abilities, both between her and her husband and also how they deal with the possibility of their children having similar abilities.
I like the fairly realistic portrayal of the kids, dealing with their daily lives and just being kids and juggling babysitters and school activities and drycleaning.
I also like her boss' somewhat skeptical attitude, he knows her abilities are legit because he's seen them proven but he also brings a welcome note of realism in reminding her that he has to produce evidence that can stand up in court, that just because he believes her doesn't mean anyone else will.
All in all a very good show and Patricia Arquette is doing a great job along with a great supporting cast.

Well NBC finally produces a quality show. I really had such low expectations for this show that it just blew me away. It was excellently done with humor and real substance to it. I am not however totally sold that they can keep this up or that NBC will allow it to stay on the air. The pilot though was excellent and it earns a full green. Patricia Arquette who I never was very impressed with is simply outstanding in this role. I hope they continue to show her struggling with the acceptence of her gift and trying to be a mother and wife. They even convientely inserted a Scully for her in her husband. A rocket scientist no less. Surprise, Surprise, NBC produces a quality show. I actually have something to watch on NBC.
Rating: Green. A total surprise.
