My Name is Earl: Network Decisions

Somebody better check to see if Hell has frozen over. Three consecutive good network decisions in a row???? What are the odds of that? Probably about the same as a 747 landing on my front lawn. First FOX cancels the awful Head Cases. Then they order a full season of Prison break. I am figuring ok time for something really awful to happen but nope NBC has come through and ordered a full season of My Name is Earl. They couldn't possibly make it four in a row could they?

This is a good show! I hadn't intended to watch it but when the cable finally came back on this evening (it was out just long enough to make me miss the premiere of Grey's Anatomy *grrr*), I was flipping thru the channels that did work and happened to find the pilot re-running on Bravo. It's really quite good, I like whoever it is that plays Earl and they nailed the trailer trash stuff perfectly and they've done a great job with all the characters.

Another proof positive that is the year of the sitcom. Funny from beginning to end but a little hokey though at times. Still I really liked and look forward to seeing how it develops as well.
Rating: Light Green. Funny but might need a few rough edges worked out.
[member0 adds] I love the way the writers are working the karma issue down to the details, showing what at first glance seem to be unimportant coincidences, to actually be very important parts of a bigger picture. It's also very funny, and easily one of the best sitcoms I've seen in years, along with Headcases which is dead :( ,and Everybody Hates Chris which seems to be dying after an exeptional first episode, but could come back. 2005-2006 Season, Bones, Close to Home, Commander-in-Chief, Gilmore Girls, My Name is Earl, NCIS, Sex, Love & Secrets, Supernatural: Tuesday

Tuesday is a big night for returning shows and also has a slew of new shows as well. Both returning shows capped last year with huge changes and stunning developments. NCIS ended the year with the murder of Agent Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexender). I never saw it coming because they seemed to be working hard to bring her character into focus only what we didn't know is that behind the scenese the actress Sasha Todd was whining about the hard work and then decided she wanted to quit. Now enter Lauren Holly (ala red hair picket fences style???) as Gibb's new boss and potential love interest. Also who replaces Agent Todd as well. It should be a very intersting season for a very solid show that although is sometimes CSI Light it can be a very nice alternative to the sometimes dreary CSI. The other returning show dropped huge bombshells on us as well. I am a recent convert to Gilmore Girls admittedly and having seen every episode save for the 3rd episode of 5th season I have to admit to being very stupid to have missed out on this show. This is quite simply the best character driven drama of any show on television hands down. With the huge changes in both girls lives it will be a very interesting season although I am a little unhappy with the way they have taken Rory's character I trust Amy Palladino ...after all she guided the show through the Jess fiasco.
As for the new shows ....well the words train wreck come to mind. It is a truely sad slate of new shows when the one of the better ones of the lot appears to be My Name is Earl the lone sitcom on the slate. OUCH! Jason Lee's show (he of Pilot Inspektor fame) looks truely awful but the preview wasn't nearly as bad as I thought so maybe...er ok maybe I watched too many other previews from this night first. The dramas look awful. Supernatural could surprise but I just don't have any faith in the actors asked to carry this show. Jenson Ackles wasn't that good on Smallville and Jared Padalecki never really shined to me as an actor who could co-star in a show. The whole concept seems rather shaky to me as well. Throw in a very non-serious and very fluffy director like McG and er this probably won't be very good. If you doubt me on this go watch Fastlane or Charlie's Angels. The last of three shows that I can say anything positive of is Bones. The biggest problem with this show is getting used to seeing David Boreanaz in the daylight. Not used to him wearing sunglasses and walking around during the day very disconcerting. The rest of the show just looks like another procedural drama with a different spin. Still maybe just maybe....well pigs can fly with the proper use of capult. Of course those three shows should win Emmy Awards compared to the rest of the dreg. Close to Home yet another procedural drama from Bruckhiemer this time having covered crime labs, missing people and cold cases now we will follow the story of a prosector whos realizes how close to home crimes really are....that sound you hear is of me snoring. Amazing the second worst looking show is Sex, Love, and Secrets. That is saying something because oh my god that preview was just awful. Denise Richards better go back to Charlie if thats all she has got. What the hell is this is supposed to be? 90210 with adults? I don't know stupid stupid stupid. The worst looking show has to be Commander in Chief. I think to myself they have a great concept. The first woman president. So they go out and get a great supporting cast. Then who will be the presient? A slew of worthy actresses who could do this part and do it well.....and they choose Geena Davis?????????? She is so unbelievable in this role and so miscast it is sad. I know she has hit hard times here but lordy people give her a comedic drama or something not a show like this. They top this off by having her not elected but having to take over and the evil men trying to make her resign. This should have been could have been a great show but seriously the show runners are idiots plain and simple. To think I was feeling hopeful about this seasons new shows....man I hope Wednesday better.
