Monday night has the potential to be a blockbuster night for sit-coms. I really like what CBS has done here. 2 1/2 Men is the number 1 sitcom on TV now and will now be surrounded by two potentially great sit-coms. Leading into 2 1/2 men will be How I met your Mother. Bob Sagat is perfectly cast as the voice over and Alyson Hannigan gets to be the goofy financee of his friend. The show creators are a bit untested but this show looks like it might be a real good show. The follow up to 2 1/2 men, Out of Practice, also looks strong with another very strong cast and creators coming over from Frasier. Still it does have Paula Marshall in it a known show killer but hey this is the network that broke Jon Cryer's rep of show killer so maybe they can save her too. The only real downside to all this is Kitchen Confidental. It has a solid cast and Darren Star is behind it but I just can't shake the feeling that this could be a real bomb.
The drama's are a mixed bag. The returning Medium has real potential to turn into a powerhouse show. The renamed Surface looks really good in the previews but I am not sure how they can carry it for a whole season on this much less two. Prison Break also looks like it might be good but I am just not sure how well they can carry a Prison break for 20 something episodes much less into season 2. Just Legal looks awful and should be renamed Doogie Howser goes to Law School.

This is the episode that finally takes the whole series up a notch. This truely has developed into an upper tier sit-com. This episode by far was the funniest they have ever done and I couldn't stop laughing through the whole episode. I loved them changing the theme at the end of the scene to say Squab instead of men that just made it even funnier. This show has now proven it is the best sit-com on television and unlike Lorre previous sit-com (Darma and Gregg) which started so strong and then flamed out this one started weakly and has steadly grown in leaps and bounds. I don't know how the season finale can top this episode but if it comes close this has been a banner year for the show.

Although this sit-com keeps trucking along and is clearly the best sit-com on TV right now and admittedly the only one I watch at this point. The highlight of this episode (and no disrespect for the episode) was the ending bump by Mr. Lorre. The best thing about watching any Chuck Lorre show is that no matter how bad the show maybe those ending bumps are guaranted to make it worthwhile. Still this one stood out above all others. So hoping that he doesn't decide this is a breach of contract I will reprint the bump here in case you missed it. Chuck Lorre #137:
I believe that there is an unspoken contract between those who purport to make comedy and those who watch comedy. That contract states that in exchange for the viewer's time and attention, he or she will experience the simple joy of laughter. Anything less constitutes a breach of contract. We've worked very hard to hold up our end of the bargain. We hope you've laughed. We certainly have. For those of you who have not fully given us your time and attention, we would expect you to do better in the future. Talking to loved ones while the show is on, even if it's to comment on the show, means you're not really holding up your end. Try waiting for the commercials to discuss specific jokes and startling plot developments. Another thing to look out for is eating loud food that gets in the way of hearing all the dialogue (this includes eating in a hurry so your dinner will be fully digested before the folks at CSI Miami start poking at cadavers). Needless to say, all phones must be shut off and toilet visits are allowed only if clothing, furniture and slow-moving pets are threatened. In such cases, viewers are encouraged to leave the bathroom door ajar so they can still hear the show (men are advised to pee on the porcelain part of the bowl to reduce unnecessary "stream" noise). If the above demands seem onerous, please keep in mind that we have entered into an unspoken comedy contract. Failure on the part of either party to comply with its terms will result in reality TV.

Amazingly, well maybe not so amazing, this is the only sitcom I am watching now. Sitcoms are so far in the toliet that I doubt any plunger or snake can ever get them out. The problem with sitcoms is a complete total lack of orginality. There are no more Seinfields, Night Courts, Wings, Cheers, Friends or even a Frasier. I don't know if there is a sitcom on network television right now that isn't a family sitcom. Two and a Half Men are about as close as they get to a non-family sitcom. Worse still as previously noted syndrome of fat man and hot wife has completly taken over. Is there really any difference between According to Jim, King of Queens, Still Standing, and Listen Up? I can't tell the difference anymore. That being said even with its lack of orginal concept wretched almost Enterprise level theme song this is sadly one of the best sitcoms on TV. Despite all its flaws the acting is impeccable and the lines are funny....but its far far far far from an elite sitcom. I don't know if I will ever see one of those again.

A definate surprise. The kid was well played and not overly cute. Charlie Sheen played himself basically and did it well and John Cryer did a good job of playing the other half of the odd couple. It has some potential and had a some very funny moments. This could be one of the more pleasent suprises of the year.
Rating: Weak Light Green. Some areas need to be polished but its off to a good start.
